Not an Outside NGO. This Is Residents' Own Work.
Twelve years on, from a neighborhood savings circle to an organization reaching 35 neighborhoods — and never once stopped being run by the residents who live there.
It Started With a Neighborhood Savings Circle
In 2014, eight housewives in RT 03 agreed to set aside part of their savings circle funds for a shared health fund. No proposals, no logo — just notes in an exercise book and trust between neighbors.
The name "Simpul" (knot) was chosen because that is what actually happened: residents who once only knew each other by sight became bound together through small activities done together every month.
Today our programs reach 35 neighborhoods, but the way we work has stayed the same since day one: from residents, run by residents, for residents.
